Pancake Breakfast

This morning there was a pancake breakfast at the church in town. I was off today, and actually remembered it was today, so treated myself to breakfast. It was such a cold morning with snow on the road, and hardly any cars were out today. I was worried that they wouldn't get a good turnout because of it, so made the effort to go.

I pulled up in front of the church, and noticed a sign sitting right in the middle of the street advertising it. Not too many cars were there, and I wondered if I was too late, but looked at the sign and sure enough it was the right time to be there. I went down the steps to the basement, and opened the door. All eyes seemed to be on me as I walked in. There weren't too many in there at that time, but noticed my brother and sister in law sitting at a table.

Turns out, the sign in the street was a sandwich sign and my brother was the one wearing it. He came in out of the cold for a warm up and some pancakes, so he parked it right where everyone could see it.

Aunt B and M came in and sat down with us, and a few other relatives came in. After a while a few more people trickled in for pancakes, and overall the turnout wasn't too bad. I know I sure enjoyed the ham, sausage, and pancakes with real maple syrup on this cold morning. It hit the spot.

When I left, my brother was all bundled up, wearing the sandwich sign and back out in the street. Bless his heart.

I was glad to go, and see familiar faces. Most, I have no idea who they are, but see them every time there is something like this, and I can see how they grow, or changes in their faces from the life experiences that have transpired over the winter. Some older people got more feeble, some young ones had growth spurts. Some are ageless, and never change. Maybe those people I see more often so don't notice it as much.

I get such a kick out of sitting at a table and watching everyone and listening all the conversations of people catching up on the goings on of the community. For some reason, I get comfort going to these types of functions. Everything is the same, yet everything is different in a way. It brings my attention back from the hectic schedules, and things happening in life, and back to some sort of familiar place to take refuge.
