There He Blows!

I was driving on the interstate to the store today, and noticed several groundhogs out and about, finally awake from their winter's sleep. It reminded me of a story a very good friend of mine told a while back. I don't know if I shared this one or not, so if you have heard it before, you are going to hear it again.

My friend's ex husband wasn't a very bright man, and his brother was about the same. He lived along the interstate on a farm, and had complained about the groundhogs creating a major problem in his barn yard. My friend told him that groundhogs were "purist" vegetarians, and if in any way their burrow was fouled, they would leave. She told him to pour a little motor oil, or some gas down the hole, and they would find another place to live.

My friend said that a few days later, her brother in law called and said that he might have misunderstood the instructions she gave him. He said he poured gasoline down the hole, and lit it. She never said to light it, mind you, but being a not so bright man, he just had to take things farther. If pouring gas down the hole would work, then lighting it would be even better.

Anyway, he hadn't realized that like many other burrowing animals, they have another escape hole, and this one happened to be on the hill along side the interstate, so when he lit it, he said that the groundhog shot out of the other escape hole like a big ole cannon ball and flew over all four lanes of the interstate to the other side.

I can't imagine being a driver, just sailing along the interstate, and looking up to see a groundhog flying through the air.

Sometimes I wish I wouldn't remember stuff like that.
